need help with system requirements

I have an iMac/intel/1.83 GHz with 2 gb memory. Running 10.6.8 system.

Tried downloading new version of Minecraft (1.74), but it didn't work at all.

Then tried 1.0.0. Still doesn't work.

Any ideas?

No error messages. It comes up with a window with a bunch of info about upgrading, etc. At the bottom there is a PLAY button. I push that and the same window comes back up.
I think maybe it has to do with the 1.83 GHz. Maybe it needs 2 to run MC.

Did you download the mac version of MC? https://s3.amazonaws.com/Minecraft.Download/launcher/Minecraft.dmg

Try to delete the whole .minecraft folder in Appdata and then install again.. Also update java
