I cannot currently post my error in its full context but I will give you the jist of it:

Since my friend mistakenly installed avast on my computer I have been unable to run my minecraft server or even the minecraft client, I have uninstalled avast to no avail. The error says something like, "cannot connect to authentication servers" I have checked the mojang servers and they are all up. Please help?

Check your firewall settings, and turn anything off conflicting with Minecraft.

All firewalls are completely disabled, including router firewalls, windows firewalls, and Avast has been uninstalled.

I sincerely cannot figure it out, this has me completely perplexed.

I have found these possible solutions online please tell me which you think would work best:

1)
ipconfig /flushdns

2)
Go the Control Panel.
Click Network and Internet, then Network and Sharing Center, and click Change adapter settings.
Select the connection for which you want to configure Google Public DNS. For example:
To change the settings for an Ethernet connection, right-click Local Area Connection, and click Properties.
To change the settings for a wireless connection, right-click Wireless Network Connection, and click Properties.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Select the Networking tab. Under This connection uses the following items, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and then click Properties.
Click Advanced and select the DNS tab. If there are any DNS server IP addresses listed there, write them down for future reference, and remove them from this window.
Click OK.
Select Use the following DNS server addresses. If there are any IP addresses listed in the Preferred DNS server or Alternate DNS server, write them down for future reference.
Replace those addresses with the IP addresses of the Google DNS servers:
For IPv4: 8.8.8.8 and/or 8.8.4.4.
For IPv6: 2001:4860:4860::8888 and/or 2001:4860:4860::8844
Restart the connection you selected in step 3.

3)
Install new java

4)
Fix avast firewall etc.

A) It was the Behavior Shield that was blocking Java from launching Minecraft.

The exception I added was: C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe and it works like a charm now!

B)One feature of the Avast antivirus program is the ability to block potentially dangerous applications and executable files from running. By preventing them from operating, Avast stops them from spreading through your computer or downloading additional dangerous files to your computer. However, there are some programs that Avast incorrectly deems dangerous and blocks from running even though they are completely safe. Fortunately, there is a simple way to tell Avast which programs to exempt from blocking.

Open Avast
Double-click the "Avast" icon on your desktop or locate and run the Avast executable file on your computer to start Avast.

Navigate to Avast File System Shield
Click "Real-Time Shields" in the column on the left of the Avast interface. From the drop-down menu that appears, select "File-System Shield."

Open Up List of Exclusions
Click "Expert Settings," and then click "Exclusions." This will take you to a list of programs that are exempt from Avast's File-System Shield blocking.

Add Your Games to the List
Click the "Add" button and navigate to the .exe file of the game that Avast is blocking from running. Select the .exe and click "Open." It will now be added to the list of exempt programs and Avast will no longer prevent it from running.

5)
Reinstall windows clean everything
