Error: need Java Runtime Environment

Hai im a minecraft player and I just got a new laptop for Christmas and like I am trying to download minecraft and it says I need Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0 and im trying to get it but every time I download it still says the same thing and all I want is to play some MC!

p.s I have Windows 8
